Skirts and skorts are the perfect option for women golfers. They keep you cool and comfortable so you can focus on the important stuff like learning a new sport or improving your game. Fretting about what to wear on the course is a thing of the past. We've created a guide of golf skorts for women that balances your athletic prowess and your eye for fashion.

Don't know where to start? Check out our collection of women's stylish golf skorts here, and you can be sure you are on par with both fashion and function. When you are wearing a skort, you get the fashionability of a golf skirt or tennis skirt, while the comfort of wearing shorts.

Finding the correct length, pattern, and style can feel like an undertaking when it comes to a woman's golf skort. Some things to keep in mind when purchasing skorts include:

1. Golf Skirt Length

Golf skirt length is a crucial factor to consider when purchasing skorts- it can truly make or break your game. If your skort is too short, you will spend the majority of your time tugging it down, which can compromise your play drastically. You may also be forbidden from playing a course with stricter dress codes if you have a short golf skirt.

By the majority of golf club guidelines, the appropriate length is said to be between 14-18 inches, which are mid-length golf skirts for women, a little longer than mid-thigh. But according to PGA.com a rule of thumb is that if the skort is longer than your fingertips when standing up straight, you're probably fine–that's a few inches above the knee. However, a few very traditional courses require longer skirts below the knee so know your course's dress code.

2. Material of Golf Skorts for Women

It is a mistake to presume that the material of what you are wearing is inconsequential in golf. While choosing the skirt or skort that will help you play your best game, select moisture-wicking fabrics with elasticity, ideally achieved through spandex and polyester combinations. Golf may appear to require less movement, but you will need to bend down to pick up golf balls and swing your club; thus, the material of the skort has to be breathable and elastic.

3. Women's Golf Skorts Patterns & Colors

Tired of the generic, basic, masculine-led style of average golf apparel? We firmly believe that choosing a bold color or printed skort is a great way to add some personality to your golf outfit. You can express yourself with over 70 different styles ofWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop skorts we offer from all-white classics like the Olivia White to the bold printed Micaela skort.

Keep it Classy with White

A pleated skort pays homage to the classic pleated or double-hemmed white when styling your golf outfits. There's nothing wrong with sticking to the basics as long as you ensure that the skort fits you well, keeps your legs moving just fine, and is breathable. If you are tired of the same ol' straight hems, pleats and frilled layers at the hem of the skort, add a feminine touch to the skort. You can wear weak biker shorts underneath or buy pleated skirts with in-built shorts.

Khaki But We Mean Business

Designed to be stylish at the office and at the country club, figure-hugging khaki skorts are among our favorites in the what-to-wear-on-the-course department! With features like in-built shorts to keep you comfortable while playing, it enables a feminine, classy, figure-flattering silhouette while ensuring you are on top of your game-- both on and off the court.

Black Extravaganza

Falling on the perfect length of 17-18 inches in the front and back, black, athletic skorts like the Joann with a flare at the bottom are all the rage. These tip their hat to the classic tennis skirt, but specifications like the accordion pleating detail exude a powerful aura as you swing your club powerfully. Made with stretchable material that perfectly hugs your waist, these skorts are a must-have for every type of golfer.

Here are some additional questions you may want answered:

Are tennis and golf skirts the same?

The short answer to this question is no. Despite appearances, tennis and golf apparel are very different when taking into consideration the requirements of the sport. Considering that tennis is high-intensity, and tennis players are required to run, the bottoms required for tennis should be more agility-conductive material.

Therefore, you can select slightly more form-fitting and compact skorts to play golf than the mobility-centric material needed to play tennis.Women's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop offers styles like the Serenity skort that are perfect crossover styles as they allow movement and agility required of tennis but are also perfect for the golf course.

What's the difference between a skirt and a skort?

The main difference between a golf skirt and a golf skort is that a skort is a combination of a skirt and shorts, while a golf skirt is simply a skirt. A skort typically features a skirt on the outside with shorts or compression shorts underneath, which can provide additional coverage and comfort for the golfer.

Golf skorts are a popular choice among female golfers because they offer the femininity and style of a skirt, while still allowing for a full range of motion on the golf course. They are also designed with technical fabrics that wick away moisture and provide cooling comfort, making them ideal for hot and humid weather conditions.

Golf skirts, on the other hand, are more traditional and offer a classic, elegant look for female golfers. They are typically made from lightweight, breathable fabrics that allow for ease of movement and can be paired with compression shorts or leggings for added coverage and support.

Ultimately, whether you choose a golf skirt or a golf skort will depend on your personal preference and style. Both options are designed to enhance your performance and make you look and feel your best on the golf course.

How should golf skirts fit?

The fit of your golf skort can depend on many factors, such as your body type and what styles you prefer to wear while on the golf course. Firstly, there are a lot of cuts, shapes, patterns, and colors you can choose from.

The first of these is athletic, where the streamlined, sweat-wicking material gives you the look of a top-notch athlete and keeps you comfortable.

Straight skorts are well-suited for all body types, and the waists, in particular, fit you perfectly around the waist and enable swift movement.

Hourglass golf gear, particularly in skorts, is for the fashionistas and anyone who likes to cut a powerfully feminine silhouette on the course with a figure-hugging, skirt-imitating profile.

Oval skorts usually come with rounded hems and look very shapely both on the course and are a perfect option for brunch right after!

How long should golf skorts be?

According to most club regulations, the ideal length for golf skorts is 14-18 inches. With rules about dressing becoming laxer, you can wear shorter skorts comfortably if your club allows a shorter length. Again, just remember that some clubs require the length to extend past your fingertips and furthermore, some require below the knee. Make sure to know your club's dress code.

Are skorts still in fashion in 2023?

Yes, very much so. With the return of late 90's and early 2000's fashion trends, golf skorts with pockets, buttons, and styles are all the rage with women's golf apparel! With skorts, you can personalize your golf wardrobe with traditionally feminine apparel and still not worry about the breeze being where it shouldn't be! (And who can say no to women's golf skirts with pockets.)

Skorts can be styled as quirky, streamlined, and even elegant- some skorts from our collection fit perfectly into a business meeting right after golf practice- all you need to do is put on a button-down shirt and look like the very visual of a professional!

With the transformation of women’s sports fashion, both golf and tennis have seen some stringent dress code rules being relaxed, and both have seen a vast shift to personalized fashion rather than just being viewed as a sports uniform. Both tennis and golf skirts are fashion statements on and off the courts. However, there are notable differences in the construction, fabric, and tailoring of golf and tennis skirts.

Both golf and tennis skirts have been tailored with built-in shorts to keep the legs of the athlete wearing them free from clingy fabric and yet provide coverage while bending or running as the sport they are playing inevitably demands. These new pieces of apparel are called skorts, characterized by fabric constructing shorts right underneath the material of the outer skirt. Moreover, activewear has become quite the trendy fashion category, and so both golf and tennis skirts have evolved to emulate the athletic, off-duty celebrity look we’ve come to know as “athleisure”. Depending on which sport you play, both golf and tennis skirts are comfortable, flexible, and instrumental in ensuring you have a good game while looking your best both on and off the courts. We are here to break down some of the differences you'll find among golf and tennis skorts but, lucky for you,Women's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop is committed to helping you create a versatile wardrobe for on and off the course (or court!) so there are an array of skorts that crossover and work perfectly for both club and racquet sports

Golf Skirts

Golf skirts take into account the kind of movement required while you are playing the game. They have specifications like moisture-wicking material and are breathable given their spandex and polyester fabric. Most golf skirts come under the category of golf skorts, in that they have built-in shorts underneath the skirts. This ensures that you are as mobile as you like without the fear of the skirt riding up your back. Skirts are a new addition to golf fashion, which used to be relatively conservative. Still, now you have a plethora of cuts, patterns, hems, and materials that give you the appearance of a fashionista and a formidable athlete all in one. Skirts sometimes weren’t taken as serious sports apparel, but the construction of golf skirts exudes femininity, style, and athleticism at the same time.

Most golf skirts follow the straight-cut pattern with small slits and the sides of the hem, though some can be oval and flared as well. While pleated skirts are more commonly associated with tennis, pleats are just as fashionable in the world of golf skirts- giving the classy, textured visual appeal and lengthening the skirt and ensuring breathability.

Frustrated that you have to leave tidbits like keys and extra golf balls very far away from the course? With added features and improvements like pockets, golf skirts now offer the functionality you need and have become a must-have for golf fashion. Not to worry, though, the pockets are sewn into the interior, so outwardly your skirts will be looking just as sophisticated- whether straight or double-hemmed or pleated.

Tennis Skirts

Tennis is the sport best known for being an emulation of elegant, classy fashion while also channeling specifications designed to make the wearer’s game better. Tennis skirts aren’t limited as a fashion choice reserved for tennis courts- they’ve made appearances on runways as an homage to the blooming sports fashion industry and a nod to sports fashion of the past and present. Athletes like Serena Williams, Maria Sharapova, and Naomi Osaka have stylized and personalized their tennis skirts to make fashion statements followed by players both on and off the course.

As a staple for workout clothing for sports like golf, badminton, and even football, tennis skirts enable movement like running, jumping, squatting, and stretching. They are made with sweat-wicking, bacteria-repellent light spandex and are usually pleated or offer flow for plenty of movement. Tennis skirts are very unlikely to be form-fitting, although newer styles like the Olivia skorts fromWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop offer enough stretch that you can get across the court even with its curve-hugging style. With waistbands made from elastic fabric, and the pleated skirts offering versatility, tennis skirts are a suitable workout gear choice, as well as fit right in while you run errands or chase your toddler!

What’s the Difference?

While tennis and golf skirts have many similarities, such as in fabric and patterns, and both are conducive to physical activities and sport, they have notable differences. Tennis is a higher-intensity game that requires running and greater leg mobility than golf, where you are usually required to stand at your position and then swing at the ball. For that purpose, tennis skirts are generally not cinched around the legs, though golf skirts can be. You also get more leeway in the fabric while playing golf with a skirt than you do in tennis.

Can tennis skirts be worn for golf?

Tennis skirts can very much be worn for golf games; however, their length sometimes doesn’t meet the dress code requirements of golf clubs since they happen to be shorter on average than golf skirts. You can still pair them with biker shorts or leggings on the golf course. An easy way to assess the correct length of your skirt for a golf course is that the hem of the skirt should be below your fingertips as you stand up straight.

Do golf skirts have shorts underneath?

Yes- such skirts are called skorts, and they are used in many other sports like cycling, tennis, racquetball and pickleball. With shorts usually stitched underneath the skirt, they prevent discomfort by maintaining modest coverage. The flapping of looser-hemmed skirts is also made less distracting by the snug fit of the undershorts built into skorts.

Can you wear a pleated skirt for golf?

You can most certainly wear a pleated skirt for golf for that classy, feminine flair. Not only is it a great visual statement of your fashion savviness, but you can also charm the girls with your fashion choices later at brunch! Check out the Valentina skort from our Heat Collection. Available in White, Black and a soft vintage Blue.

What do you call a tennis skirt?

A tennis skirt can also be categorized as a skort, often part of athlete’s uniforms and characterized by the stitched-in shorts underneath.

Why do female golfers wear skirts?

Considering it was uncommon for women to wear anything but trousers for reasons of modesty in the past, women golfers have embraced skirts as a fashion choice. Hemlines have grown above the knees, enabling mobility, and skorts ensure the same mobility without fear of over-exposure. Skirts allowed female golfers to move easily and swing more freely. While other options such as trousers and chinos are more classic and can now also be found in an array of stylish colors, women seem to like the breathability and style offered by the many skort options on the market. Skorts are available in bold, bright colors, quirky patterns, and flowing, double- or pleated hems.]]>

What to Wear Golfing for Women: The Generally Preferable Uniform

Tops: Everyday Tops That Work For Golf

How to dress for golf: The rules of golf apparel aren’t nearly as rigid as some people make them out to be, so you still have the liberty of playing around with a multitude of colors and patterns for a pop of personality. The first article of clothing you should focus on wearing to tick all the right boxes is a golf shirt with a collar, preferably made from moisture-wicking, light material.

This is necessary to ensure sweat absorption to let you continue unchecked with the game. Great non-golf-specific options are a classic button-down (ideally with some stretch), a bomber jacket, windbreaker or sport pullover, a light sweater, a short sleeve or sleeveless collared shirt. These days, even a mandarin collar or a ruffle collar would work at most courses. If it has SOME sort of collar, it will probably work.

What do golfers wear? They don’t wear things that are too tight since they constrict your movement. Don’t wear anything too loose since it is likely to flap around in the wind and distract you from keeping your eyes on the game. These suggestions are based on what would be allowed at the majority of clubs from an everyday wardrobe but it doesn’t hurt to check your specific club’s regulations to avoid getting turned away from playing.

Bottoms: Closet Staples That Work For a Day of Golf

How to dress like a golfer: If you own a pair of breathable, neutral-colored slacks, those are a pretty safe bet for a day at the club, but you want to make sure they have some stretch or allow freedom of movement to bend over or squat down without issue.

Shorts are acceptable too for women golfers, if they are non-denim and not a workout style gym short. Golf shorts and golf skorts are totally acceptable for female golfers. Just make sure they are an acceptable length and again, provide freedom of movement.

You can also wear a skirt with a pair of undershorts for coverage unless you have a skort on hand. Wearing a skirt with no undershort is not recommended as there is a lot of bending and squatting to pick up your ball and place your tee and you'll want the coverage to avoid any unwanted exposure.

Colors are something you can play around with in golf. While the standard khaki, navy, black, white, cream, tan, and beige remain staples of golf fashion, you can have a lot of fun dabbling in colors and patterns. In fact, in recent years, it has become the norm to be more playful and wear flirty golf clothes to show your personality a bit.

sacredplague offers a variety of bold colors and printed bottoms as well as the perfect neutrals that are perfect on or off the course if you aren't an avid golfer and are not interested in purchasing golf-specific pieces. Shoes and Accessories

If you are playing during the summers, moisture-wicking options from sportswear brands are key. Choosing the correct pair of shoes are also fundamental to your success on the course. Running shoes with soft spikes of rubber and plastic are suitable for gripping on while you swing your arms and prevent slippage, similar to golf shoes.

If you only plan to play once, you could get away with any pair of tennis shoes but you should know that if you stick with it, grip from your shoes is key in a good swing and successful round. If you have visors or baseball caps from playing other sports, you can use them to keep the sun out of your eyes. However, avoid large cowboy or broad summer hats. A simple wrist watch to remind you of the time is a preferable accessory to wear on the course.

Much of your game is spent looking toward the sky to watch where your ball ends up making sunglasses a must to avoid spending 4 hours squinting. Socks are also instrumental to keep your feet dry and comfortable. Opt for a performance sock made of a breathable wicking material. You'll also want to have a few other key items in your bag:

A good SPF 45+ sunscreen (re-apply every 90 minutes or so), a blue-tooth radio, if allowed, to keep your game fun and not let you get into your own head. A ball marker, or some small quarter-sized item to mark your ball on the green. You could also keep wet wipes, sanitizer, lotion, lip cream, a light jacket, a koozie, etc. on hand so that you are prepared for anything!

Most likely, someone you are golfing with will be happy to let you borrow something you may need, like a rangefinder or divot fixer, during your round but we feel like this list is a great jumping off point to show you are prepared for your day.

We hope this guide has helped you pull out the right pieces from your closet to make an excellent impression for your first time stepping out on a golf course. Read on for some solutions to more inquiries that you may have:

DO YOU HAVE TO WEAR WOMEN’S GOLF CLOTHES TO PLAY GOLF?

This is both a ‘yes’ and ‘no’ answer. While it is preferable that you wear golf clothes, given that they are made with specifications keeping in mind dress code regulations and have specific properties to keep you comfortable and flexible, you can substitute golf clothes with regular clothing.

While there is broad consensus among what constitutes the correct golf attire, it is always helpful to read the guidelines of the club you are playing in to understand better what you should wear. The best bet is Chinos, slacks, pleated skirts of the correct length with collared polo shirts.

WHAT SHOULD YOU NOT WEAR WHEN GOLFING?

There are some very specific don'ts of women’s golf attire, and they are: no denim, sweats, yoga pants, no very short pants or very wide-legged loose pants, don’t wear frayed or cuffed trousers of any kind, don’t wear sandals, dress shoes, boots, or slippers of any kind, avoid beanies and hats, and also very heavy, dangling jewelry.

CAN YOU WEAR TENNIS CLOTHES FOR GOLF?

You can most certainly substitute tennis wear for golf since it has added features that make it conducive to tennis's higher intensity. Tennis dresses, for one, are a fantastic option to pull out on the golf course for a great fashion statement. I would keep in mind that some tennis pieces may not have the collar required by many courses. Click here to check out some great tennis options to start you along the journey.

WHAT DO I WEAR IF I DON’T HAVE GOLF CLOTHES?

Well-fitting (though not too tight), neutral-colored polo shirts, and moisture-wicking, designed-for-sport trousers are the route to choose if nothing in your closet is made specifically for the golf course. You shouldn’t feel compelled to go on a spending spree to start out in golf. Flexible and breathable clothing that follows the guidelines as mentioned above will do just as well.

WHAT PANTS ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR GOLF?

The first cardinal rule on any golf course: no jeans. Not only are they forbidden in many golf courses, but they’re also not conducive to free movement and agility. Skirts, skorts, and shorts are eons more comfortable, given that they leave your legs free from fabric, but you should keep in mind that they must not be too short to prevent discomfort as you continually tug the hem down.

WHAT SHOULD WOMEN GOLFERS WEAR TO GOLF TOURNAMENTS?

The dress code for women golfers at golf tournaments can vary depending on the tournament's rules and guidelines. However, there are some general guidelines and expectations for what women should wear at golf tournaments.

Typically, women golfers are expected to wear a collared shirt or a golf-specific top that covers the shoulders. They may also wear slacks, capris, or knee-length shorts or skirts, as long as they are not too tight or revealing. In some cases, shorts or skirts may need to be a certain length or have specific features, such as pockets or pleats.

Additionally, women golfers may wear golf-specific shoes with soft spikes or spikeless soles. Some tournaments may have guidelines for the style and color of shoes that are allowed.

It's always a good idea to check the tournament's dress code guidelines before attending to ensure that you are dressed appropriately. It's also important to note that some golf courses may have their own dress codes that must be followed, even if they are not part of a tournament.

Every sport you consider playing has its own set uniform, or attire that has become quite particular to the sport, while the dilemma attached to what one should wear while golfing is as old as the sport itself. The common prototype of a “golfer” is the dated look of a polo shirt and slacks in either boring, basic colors or prints that are anything but exciting. We firmly believe that female golfers can very much be stylish, comfortable and athletic while wearing appropriate golf attire. Athletes in other sports have begun to use fashion as a form of expression, which in some cases garners as much attention on the courts as any of their athletic prowess. For example, Bethanie Mattek-Sands, celebrated tennis player, wears bright, splashy colors and thick black eyeliner, quite the sight to behold when she’s within the muted blues, greys, navies, blacks and whites of her tennis-playing counterparts.

Women golfers, historically, weren’t able to put much thought in their attire because they didn’t have the variety of fashionable options available to them today, and so they dressed in whatever was considered within the dress code if they wanted to be taken seriously. However, with brands like sacredplague, a perfect balance of stylish, appropriate and comfortable is guaranteed. Considering that golf etiquette, particularly where dress codes are concerned, are enforced strictly across golf clubs and competitions, we bring to you some Do’s and Don’ts when it comes to attire on the golf course. This guide assures you that you can wear golf-appropriate attire, that is both fashionable and shows your personality, have it fit you just right and still be taken seriously in what used to be a sport dominated by men.

The Guide to Golf Tops

woman on golf course in pink shirt and printed skirt

Do: There are some things to keep in mind when selecting tops to wear for the golf course. The first is to wear preferably collared, polo-style shirts. The material of the shirt you choose is instrumental to your success on the course, so only select cotton, polyester-blend, or microfiber shirts to absorb sweat and keep you cool and well-aired. These can be whatever color you’d like, and whatever style you’d think would be the most flattering and the most comfortable. If you’re confused as to what’s a fashion “yes” in the golf market, check our tops out here.

For cooler days, layer your clothes- sweaters are perfectly acceptable and so are vests. Just make sure your arms have enough room to swing and enable you to have your best game without the wind eating into your skin. Slim-fitted, collared, button-down shirts, like this one are also a smart route to take with a roomy jacket or windbreaker on top.

Don’t: There are some fashion “don’ts” when it comes to golf tops- the first is to avoid tops like tank tops, tube tops, t-shirts, halters, midriff bearing crops, or bathing suit tops. Golf is still quite the conservative sport with very particular apparel guidelines that you will have to follow when playing with clubs and teams. Also avoid all kinds of streetwear like sweatshirts, bomber jackets, or denim jackets. There are exceptions to this rule. You will find some municipal type courses that are not as strict on dress-code but, if your goal is to be prepared to play with any golfer on any course, it’s best to stick to the general dress-code rules.

The Guide To Golf Bottoms

Do: The ground rules when it comes to pants are quite simple. Slacks are welcome, jeans and cargo pants are not. Shorts, skirts, skorts, etc. are all fine too. Selecting the correct material for your bottoms from among your favorite golf apparel brands ensures that you are comfortable on the course and also in tune with the environmental conditions you are playing in. For this reason, select pants or skirts made of airy cotton and light polyester or nylon blend, although we prefer a polyester blend as cotton tends to pill with any friction and doesn't offer the benefits of a performance poly-elastane or nylon-elastane blend. A fashion ‘do’ of golf is to contrast the color of your shirt with your pants, for example, a dark shirt with beige or off-white pants. You can find a great selection of fun, coordinated styles here. When the sun is out, we recommend opting for skorts, shorts, capris, and our favorite option, which has recently skyrocketed in popularity - golf dresses - to keep you cool and comfortable.

Don’t: One thing to avoid is revealingly short skirts and shorts. The wind and your activity is sure to cause some uncomfortable moments on the course. To avoid the distracting act of pulling down your skirt every few minutes, a mid-thigh skort is a safe length to go with, keeping in mind that some more conservative courses require much longer. You should also avoid wearing things like yoga pants, bell bottoms, and jeans.

The Guide To Golf Footwear

close up of womens WhiteWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop traveler spikeless shoe while standing on a golf course

Do: The correct footwear can be the be-all, end-all of your time on the golf course, but it can very much also be an individualistic fashion statement. Golf shoes are most often characterized by hard rubber or plastic soles to hold on firmly to the ground and prevent imbalance and slippage. Shoes with metal spikes are a big no-no at most tournaments and clubs since they cause damage to the course. Plastic spikes or the newest trend, a spikeless sole, are your best bet. If you don’t have golf shoes, you can purchase some or wear sneakers and trainers with a firm grip.

Don’t: Dress shoes, boots and sandals are completely incompatible with the course. Not only will they be uncomfortable, but it’s also hard to make a fashion statement if you are sliding and stumbling every time you take a shot! Many clubs actually prohibit sandals. Although you can find golf sandals with spikes on the market, they don’t fall in line with most dress code requirements.

The Guide To Golf Accessories

4 golf gloves on a white background

Do: Appropriate headwear includes visors, straw hats, sun hats, and caps to prevent sunlight from distorting your vision. Be prepared to mark your ball with a cute ball marker (all of our pants, shorts and Olivia skorts come with a custom ball marker attached!). Show your fashionable side by getting golf gloves that coordinate with your outfits! And keep all your gear organized and handy with our Bring It Bag that handily attaches to the arm of your golf cart and rides securely keeping your gear on hand and all together.

Don’t: Always avoid long, heavy jewelry to prevent distraction while playing. Calluses and sores are a golfer’s plight, but that can be mitigated by buying good-quality golf gloves.

Women’s golf apparel has drastically changed for the better over the last decade. You can follow the specifics of the golf-attire rule book. Here are a few answers to common questions that we hope will set you up for success on your next round:

What is the best golf apparel brand?

sacredplague offers a luxurious, comfortable, and fashion-savvy range of golf clothing for women that fits perfectly into your everyday wardrobe as well. Designed specifically for a woman’s active lifestyle on and off the course. Other top brands you can check out are Tory Sport, J Lindeberg, Ralph Loren. You can also find some great options from brands like Lucky In Love, Lululemon, Athleta, as well as sports giants Adidas and Nike.

What are the best golf shirts?

The best golf shirts are those that don’t restrict movement, wick sweat away from your body, dry quickly and make you feel confident. Our women’s golf tops keep it chic and comfortable and are available in varying colors and cuts, so you don’t have to stick to the old style polo if you want something a bit more feminine and fun.

Do’s and Don’ts of Golf

There are a plethora of etiquette rules associated with the sport, like avoiding walking across another player’s putt on the green, not driving on the green, not talking during another golfer's backswing. You can check out our Beginner’s Guide To Golf series to learn more and make sure you are ready for your first real round. If you are looking for the do’s and don’ts that will make you a better golfer, Do work on your grip, bend from your hips, and keep your head angled towards the target. Do choose clothes that are comfortable and give you a boost of confidence, when you feel good you play better - very scientific. And finally, Do have confidence in your game! Don’t stress too much, the more frustrated you get, the harder it is to take a great shot. Don’t skip the range - practice is the best way to be a better golfer.

What should you not wear when golfing?

You should always check the dress code of the course you are visiting but as a general rule, avoid sandals, jeans and general street clothes. Avoid heavy jewelry or anything that will restrict your movement or distract you during play (a really baggy windbreaker that flaps as you swing for example).

What is acceptable golf attire?

The answer to this is simply based on where you are golfing. Beach resorts may allow their traveling, casual golfers to wear things that high-end, more conservative courses would frown upon. Know your audience and follow suit. No one says you can’t wear fun colors and show personality, as a rule, just know that golf shoes or a tennis-style shoe will be best, no jeans or denim of any kind, and a collar is almost always required for both male and female. Lucky for you, a folded, classic collar isn’t your only option, we love the mandarin collar on many of theWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop tops. As long as the club you're headed to doesn’t have a very specific dress code detailing length of skirt and that a folded classic collar is necessary, have some fun with it!

Are you new to golf? Or just need a refresher? Follow along during our 6-week blog series to learn some tips and tricks fromWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop! Learn about women's golf attire. What to wear and what not to wear on the golf course.

When you think of golf, you shouldn’t think of sweaty people in athletic wear working out.

Yes, golf is a game that requires strength and discipline, but it isn’t a ballfield and it isn’t a basketball court. There are some clothes that you should wear to the golf course and some that you need to avoid. If it’s your first time golfing and you need to know what to wear before you make an embarrassing mistake, we know it can be daunting to figure out what is acceptable on the course and what is off-limits (but we’re here to help).

This beginner's guide to what to wear while golfing will lead you through the various types of clothing and help you know what is acceptable (and encouraged) and what is better left for the gym or the morning jog around the park.

What Not To Wear On The Golf Course

Many people think women have to wear khaki shorts and polos to the golf course, but we are here to tell you that it is no longer the case! These stereotypes of boring women's golf clothes are long gone. Ladies - you can still show off your personality while playing golf.

Women’s acceptable golf attire is not only an important subject to understand but it can also be a delightful way to show off your style. Stylish golf outfits are now the norm, not the exception, and to fit in at the clubhouse and on the green you need to know what you’re getting yourself into with regards to women’s golf fashion.

Ultimately, there’s more to it than just being accepted by the style icons you look up to - there’s often dress codes at golf courses that you need to abide by. These dress requirements can vary, so make sure to reach out to your course prior to your tee time to avoid any issues.

WLDA and Symetra Tour Pro, Alex Phillips, says to "Be conscious of the golf course you are going to. Some places, especially public courses, it’s acceptable to wear leggings and just a t-shirt to play, other places you need a collar and your shirt tucked into slacks.” Take Alex's advice - showing up in a halter top and jeans might result in being asked to change clothes.

It’s good to read up on articles like ours as well because, yes, there is the formal dress code of the course, but there’s also the accepted dress code of the people who work and play there, and you want to fit in with your fellow golfers.

But this makes it sound too dour and rules-oriented! While there are dress codes, it’s no different from going to a black tie dinner: you may not be turned away at the door for wearing something casual, but you go because you want to dress up. This is an opportunity more than anything else - an opportunity to show your personal style, class, and personality. Don’t think of a golf course as a place with restrictions; think of it as an outdoor red carpet where you get to show off your best self in the clothes that are appropriate to golf.

Best of all,Women's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop has taken the difficulty out of the equation: we know what’s acceptable golf attire and what’s stylish golf outfits, and we make sure that our store is stocked with the gorgeous tops, bottoms, shoes, accessories and more that will make you stand out on the course, that will make you look like a golf star - even if this is your first time golfing and learning what to wear.

So without further ado, let’s look into some of the offerings thatWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop has prepared for you, to let you know what to wear golfing.

Our tops provide you with the flexibility to bend and twist, lean over and crouch down, all while following the dress code for women’s golf.

Dress Code for Women’s Golf: Prohibited tops on the golf course include strapless tops, t-shirts, halter tops, crop tops, and swimming suits.

Outerwear

Hitting the links while it's chilly? There are still stylish options for you to wear while keeping you warm. We suggest wearing a vest, sweater, pullover, rain jacket, or windbreaker. Our Bomber Jacket will keep the wind at bay while you're swinging a club or at brunch. Our Boyfriend Pullover will keep you comfortable and warm while still providing that high level of style you want. Baggy clothing can restrict your performance, so we recommend wearing semi-fitted clothing.

When deciding what to wear when golfing, rarely should the weather dictate your golf game, and just because the seasons have changed and you’re now having to wear a jacket over your stylish collared top doesn’t mean that you have to give up on good looks. These Boyfriend Pullovers and Bomber Jackets look every bit as classy and sophisticated when your sinking that clutch putt as any beautiful top would. The important thing is that the clothes are allowing you to play the game: they’re not a hindrance, they’re a benefit.

Dress Code For Women’s Golf: Prohibited items usually include baggy hoodies, denim jackets, and anything that can become hazardous as you swing.

Bottoms

Don't fret! When deciding what to wear golfing, there are so many options for appropriate golf bottoms. You are able to wear shorts, skorts, dresses, and pants to the golf course. One restriction to keep in mind is shorts, skorts, and dresses must be an appropriate length. Most golf courses consider fingertip length to be acceptable. If you are questioning the length of your skort, throw on some leggings underneath! Or you can wear our Quinn legging and skort combination.

There is nothing better than being out on the golf course on a warm day and being able to show off your legs that you’ve worked on so long at the gym with these gorgeous bottoms. You will not only be turning heads, but also, because of our expert craftsmanship on our stylish golf outfits, you will always have movement and flexibility.

Dress Code For Women’s Golf: Prohibited bottoms on the golf course include JEANS OF ANY KIND, sweatpants, yoga pants, or cargo shorts/pants.

Accessories

Accessories on the golf course? Of course! Accessories are the perfect way to show off your personal style. We typically suggested wearing a hat on the golf course to protect that beautiful face of yours. Other accessories that are optional to wear include belts, gloves, andWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop's patented “Fringe Its”. Fringe Its allow you to accessorize your shoes and give you a custom look to complete your outfit.

Oh, and don't forget your bag. It’s vital you are able to stay organized on the course and always have your personal items by your side with a cart bag. Check out our Bring It Bag that will fit right over the arm of your cart with a convenient back strap.

When deciding what to wear to play golf, remember that accessories complete the look. They’re the cherry on top of the sundae. A stylish bag, an adorable hat, or the perfect shoe fringe are things to consider when deciding what to wear when golfing. There is no dress code for women’s golf when it comes to accessories, but wouldn’t you rather bring your necessities in a special-made golf bag than in a bulky purse?

Shoes

Closed-toed athletic shoes are required on nearly all golf courses, and some courses even require golf shoes. Golf shoes typically have spikes on the bottom, but spikeless options are also acceptable, like our new Traveler shoe seen below. You can find stylish shoes that are both sporty and sophisticated.

Hi friends!

We teamed up Certified Personal Trainer, Natalie Stephens, of Kaizen Performance Gym to bring you an at-home stretching and conditioning workout, just for golfers! This workout is intended to help you keep your golf game up-to-par while you are cooped up at home during The COVID-19 quarantine.

Listen to Natalie, in the video below, as she explains how our at-home workout can benefit your golf game.

Equipment

Grab your dumbbell, golf club, and a resistance band. No worries if you don't have these things! Anything stretchy can be substituted for the resistance band, anything straight can be substituted for the golf club, and any type of weight can be used as a dumbbell. Also, you can modify these movements and do them without the accessories above.

Stretching/Warm-Up Circuit

Natalie suggests beginning with the stretching portion of the workout. Follow the instructions below and watch Natalie demonstrate each movement.

1. Pull-Apart: Frontal and Overhead (25 reps each movement)

This movement is for your shoulders and upper back. Grab the band creating tension, keep your arms straight, core tight and maintain the tension on the band. Complete 25 frontal banded pull aparts and 25 overhead.

2. Hip Flexor Stretch (15 rotations each side)

This is great for stretching the hip flexors and separating the upper/lower body for better rotation and a more powerful golf swing. Keep your core engaged and complete 15 rotations per side.

3. Abduction-Extension and External Rotation-Kickbacks (20 reps each) -

This is great for your glutes, hip strength, and stability. Maintain a slight bend in the knee as you work the opposite hip into the 3 movements for 20 reps each. Switch legs and repeat.

The Conditioning Circuit

After you finish the stretch/warm-up circuit, please continue on with the next 5 conditioning exercises. These conditioning exercises can help boost your stamina on the course. Watch Natalie demonstrate the movements below.

1. Dumbbell squat (15 reps)

Toes are slightly turned out, the chest is up and the core is engaged. Sit back through your heels. Ensure your knees are not going over your toes. As you come up press through your heels and squeeze your glutes.

2. Bridge-Up (30 reps)

Keep core engaged and squeeze your glutes. This movement will fire up your glutes and improve your hip rotation. This will help prevent back injury, protect the spine and allow you to activate the glutes. It can also increase distance and power.

3. Wide step walking lunges (15 each leg)

The wide step focuses on your hamstring and glutes. This helps maintain posture and stabilize the pelvis during your swing and it will aid in building the hamstrings and glutes to prevent back injury.

4. Renegade Row (12 reps each)

Keep your chest down as you row and engage your core. Squeeze the back as the dumbbell comes up. This utilizes the cohesive muscle group system involved in your swing.

5. Cross Toe Touch (15 each)

Complete 15 reps on the same side then switch to the other side. This is a rotational movement to strengthen your core to improve rotation and gain distance.

Most people think that golfers don’t have to worry so much about injuries, but 62% of amateur golfers and 85% of pros have experienced everything from sore backs to wrist pain. Golf is a sport that requires the body to make a lot of repetitive movements, leading to muscle strain and soreness.

Whether you’re just getting into the swing (literally) of the game or playing in tournaments, you can benefit from making certain exercises a regular habit.

These ten golf exercises will not only help turn your bogeys into birdies but prevent injuries, and prep you for a long day out on the course. They help build strength, flexibility, and balance and are some of the best exercises for your golf swing.

These exercises have been chosen with female golfers in mind, from warm-up routines to casual stretches and, if looking good is important to you don’t worry, you won’t have to give up fashion for fitness.Women's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop has some of the best women’s golf apparel that is designed and crafted specially to move with your body, allowing you a full range of motion while you are performing on the course. Never feel like your choice is either uncomfortable good looks or comfortable sweats. WithWomen's Tops & Long T-Shirts,Sustainable Womenswear Shop you can play every round of golf (and, ultimately perform all of these exercises to maintain your physical fitness) with a wide range of movement, all while looking great.

1. Plank

Plank

A strong core goes hand-in-hand with being a great golfer, as it’s the muscles found in this area that help power your swing. The plank targets your abs, back, and butt, which make up your core, and a bonus is that the move strengthens your shoulders and arms as well. One tip to help prevent a neck injury, an ailment that affects golfers: look down at the floor while planking, not up. Keep your back straight without allowing your hips to dip and hold the position for as long as you can.

Some of the benefits to planking include improved posture (which is sure to help you in your golf game), increased balance and coordination (think you could use that when lining up a shot on an incline?), improved flexibility (make the most out of that swing), improved metabolism (so you’ll feel better out on the course), and improved overall mental health - which can help you in all walks of life.

Indeed, planking is remarkably beneficial for you, and not just for improving your pre-golf warm up routine. You’ll find that it translates to better overall health, better core strength, and all of the other things mentioned above which can’t help but improve the quality of your game.

2. Lunge

The classic lunge tightens up the hamstrings and lower body muscles which are important for executing a good golf swing. Do 15 to 20 reps per leg to reap the benefits.

After all, lunges are extremely beneficial to a woman’s warm up exercises for golf. As a unilateral lower body exercise in which you work on each side of your body independently, you’re able to achieve greater balance, coordination and stability. They’re also better than bilateral exercises in that they correct imbalances in your body to make it more symmetrical overall.

There are many different types of lunges and each one can be beneficial in its own way to your body’s golf exercise regimen. Stationary lunges strengthen the glutes, quads and hamstrings to give you better balance. Side lunges train your body to move side to side which can help you as you line up that shot and move through the motion of a swing. Walking lunges help with coordination, and we all know how important coordination is on the course. Twist lunges are the perfect lunges to help you as you prepare for your golf swing, and the curtsy lunge sculpts and strengthens your hip and quads to give you better posture, decreasing your risk of injury.

3. Dumbbell Shoulder Press

Shoulder Press

Working the shoulder muscles can help prevent rotator cuff tears, a common golf injury. Use dumbbells that you can comfortably lift up over your head for 15 to 20 repetitions.

Overall, any kind of weight training for golfers is beneficial, especially any move that targets the back, shoulders, butt, and legs. Shoulder presses as part of a woman’s golf workout help to increase the strength of the shoulder muscles, the triceps, the trapezius muscles, as well as the core muscles - your obliques, transverse abdominals, lower back, and spine. These all help with standing up straight and keeping a great posture.

4. Elbow Conditioning

Golfer’s elbow is a common complaint among those that love the game. To keep it at bay, perform hand exercises by stretching your wrist back and forth. Then with a light weight (like the weight of a hammer), rotate your hand left to right. Then, with thumbs pointing upward and palms in, use a light weight to deviate the hand up and down. holding light weights (or soup cans) extended in front of you with your palms facing up. Slowly bend your arms, bringing the weights towards your shoulders.

Two sets of 15 reps are recommended for these exercises. Over time, you can gradually increase the weight.

5. Standing Hip Extension

hip-extension

In this classic move, you stand behind a chair and raise one leg up behind you and back down. Besides isolating your buttocks, this exercise also helps open up the hips, which is important for maintaining a good swing.

Lift each leg for 10 to 20 reps. For added resistance, hold the leg up for a few seconds before bringing it back down.

Hip extension exercises are important because they work out your glutes and your hamstrings, which are big players in your body when it comes to being able to get around a golf course, including going up and down hills, hitting off a slope, and getting yourself out of a bunker. Strong glutes lead to better pelvic alignment which is good for back support - something you’ll definitely need on the course - and strong hamstrings are important for walking on uneven ground.

6. Yoga

yoga

It’s not exactly your typical exercise, but the ancient practice of yoga is a golfer’s secret weapon as it increases flexibility, builds core strength, and improves concentration. Check out our beginner’s guide to yoga for golfers for basic poses that new yogis can try.

Among the benefits of yoga for golfers are the increase in overall flexibility (which will help you not only as you traverse the course but also in the consistency and strength of your swing), as well as improved body awareness and control, improved core strength and stability, better posture, less back pain, and a counteracting of the tension that comes from repeated spinal rotation.

On top of all that, yoga for golfers is an important part of a woman’s golf warmup because it teaches breathing control as well as mindfulness, which can lead to the ability to perform under pressure: to hit a perfect shot right when you need it, shutting out everything going on around you.

Some of the best yoga positions for a woman’s golf warmup are Wrist Stretch, Cowface Arms, Sphinx Pose, Downward Dog Twist, Lunge Twist with Quad Stretch, Pigeon Pose at the Wall, Reverse Tabletop with Figure 4 Legs, and Supine Twist.

7. Glute Bridge

glute-bridge

The butt lifting glute bridge will build more oomph into your swing. Lie on your back with your arms at your sides, bend your knees, and lift your buttocks towards the ceiling.

The glute bridge works the lower back, the hamstrings, and the abs, as well as your glutes of course. Think of the glute bridge doing the same work as a squat, but without putting pressure on your lower back. Because of this, the glute bridge is a perfect exercise to replace the squat if you have back, hip or knee pain.

8. Side Lunge

side-lunge

This lower body exercise improves balance while also building strength throughout the legs including the inner thighs. Stand with your knees slightly bent, hands on hips, and head up and looking straight ahead while you take a step to the side with one leg. Bring it back and perform the move with the other leg.

9. Medicine Ball Rotational Throw

med-ball

This maneuver mimics a golf swing as you rotate your torso in one direction before rotating it to the other and tossing the ball at the same time. You’ll want to perform this one near a wall to safely break the path of the ball.

10. Other Golf Exercises

Consider exercises that use resistance bands to work on your strength, balance, and flexibility. Pilates and barre classes can also supplement a golfer’s fitness regimen, as both offer moves that target the core and lower body muscles.

Don’t forget to apply heat after a hard workout. Applying heat carefully to muscles stimulates blood flow and eases tightness. Cover up with one of our signature jackets or pullovers on your way home from the gym or your class!

The best women’s golf apparel is not just apparel that is made for the course, but will also get you through your workout, and through the restful period after it as your body processes and heals. A sleeveless top with a comfortable short will help you through your exercise regimen, and of course the outerwear will get you to and from the gym in style, before you ever have to worry about getting on the course.

Because remember: a good game of golf is a game that is not only about your performance on your scorecard, but about how you feel when you’re on the course - the wind, the sun, the sprinkling rain or the smell of fresh-mown grass. Golf is an experience meant to be enjoyed and to be relished, and you can do that to the fullest in the best women’s golf apparel, at peak health.
